How To Plan Your Wedding 3: Venues And Vendors

We understand that once the enchantment of an engagement wears off, and congratulations from friends and family are replaced with questions like “So have you set a date?”, many couples may feel overwhelmed with the prospect of planning a wedding. It can be hard to even know where to start!

That’s why our wedding coordinators at The Seville have put together this “How to Plan Your Wedding” blog series. Here, we’ll help you begin to prioritize and plan, covering everything you need to know to get to that aisle. (From there, the rest is up to you!)

Today’s post is our third installment, so to make sure you’re up-to-date, be sure to check out part one: “Getting Started” and part two: “Friends and Family” for more detailed information on:

  1. Getting organized and setting your wedding planning timetable
  2. Finding your “big picture” wedding vision and beginning to plan around it
  3. Selecting wedding venues you may be interested in
  4. Discussing and setting your budget
  5. Starting to build the guest list
  6. Registering for wedding gifts
  7. Selecting the wedding party

Once you’re all caught up on these steps, you’ll be ready to:

8. Consider Hiring A Wedding Planner Or Coordinator

At this stage in planning, you’ve covered a lot of the big-picture stuff. You have a solid idea of your budget, venue, guest list, wedding party, and the overall vision for the big day. Now, it’s time to start executing your plans and digging into the details — which is where a wedding planner or coordinator can really come in handy.

Whether you’re a super-busy couple with demanding jobs or families, or you just feel like you need some professional backup, a wedding coordinator can provide relief where you need it most. Not only will they be able to take a lot of tasks off your plate, but they will also have existing relationships with (and be able to provide valuable insight about) vendors.

You can hire either a full-time or part-time wedding planner or consultant to help you stay on-track. We also recommend hiring a day-of wedding coordinator, who will help make sure everything goes smoothly on the actual wedding day.

If you’re near the Schaumburg, Naperville, or Barrington areas, contact our team at The Seville to speak with one of our experienced wedding coordinators today! Our all-inclusive wedding packages come with personal coordinators who can help you make your big day go the way you want.

9. Book The Venue And Set The Date!

Whether or not you’ve chosen a wedding coordinator at this stage, it’s time to start making concrete plans. That’s right — let’s set the date!

Start calling the wedding venues on your shortlist to inquire about availability. Find a few dates that work for you, discuss them together as a couple, and make sure that their booking prices fall within your budget. Make sure you are considering their guest capacity, options for decor, catering, and wedding packages. Don’t be afraid to tour several venues before making your final decision. After all, this will be the backdrop to one of the best days of your life — make sure it’s what you’re looking for.

Then, choose your event space!

Although many venues (including ours here at The Seville) can accommodate both the ceremony and reception, some couples may decide to have a separate wedding location and wedding reception venue. If you choose this route, make sure you have a plan in place for coordinating the movement from one venue to the next.

These days, for convenience, most couples try to find a space that works for both the ceremony and reception.

10. Hire The VIP Wedding Vendors

Now that you’ve got a venue and set the date, you can start pulling the trigger on the rest of the details. It’s important to decide now whether you have any priority wedding vendors that you just have to have for the big day — whether it’s a favorite local band, a wedding photographer whose work you love, or the best wedding cake baker in the biz.

Many top wedding photographers and other in-demand wedding vendors are booked out many months (sometimes even years!) in advance, and once they’re booked, they’re gone. Decide now on your VIP vendors and start making calls now. If you hired a wedding coordinator or planner, they will be able to help you tackle the list.
